Arnfield Brass Band

We are pleased to announce that “The Last Night of the Proms”, has raised the necessary funds for our joint project with the Rubaga Rotary Club in Kampala.

The event was a great success and Glossop Rotary club thank all the many people who have contributed towards it.

Arnfield Brass band entertained our enthusiastic audience with classical tunes like Nesum Dorma and finished with a rousing suite of songs including Jerusalem.

The audience wore red, white and blue and were supplied with Union Jack flags to wave at the appropriate time.

Thanks to an excellent turnout, good raffle sales and £500 sponsorship from Windy Harbour Farm Hotel we managed to achieve the £2,400 we need for our contribution to a £30,000 global grant for the Kosovo slum in Kampala, Uganda. The event organiser, Derek Baxter, said “This has been a great success and the support we have received, especially in these difficult times, has been remarkable. A special thanks must go to Arnfield Brass who fielded 26 musicians at a nominal cost”

Our partnership with the Rubaga Rotary Club in Kampala can now proceed to the next stage.

A special thanks must go to the charity “Helping Uganda Schools”(HUGS) for helping to facilitate this joint project. Their trustees Drs. Richard and Joanna Bircher attended the event and helped to sell sponsored water supplies for the Kosovo slum. Full details of the project can be found here
